What are Dental Implants?
Replacing a Missing Root
Dental implants are a ”root” device made of titanium used to support restorations, such as crowns, bridges and dentures, that resemble a natural tooth or group of teeth to replace missing teeth. There are several manufacturers of dental implants. It’s important to consider the quality and quantity of bone when selecting the right implant for your mouth.
Benefits of Dental Implants
There are many advantages to dental implants including the ability to restore natural function, increased security and stability, non-removable restorations, long term service life, no need to affect adjacent teeth (as are involved with bridges).
Careful Dental Implant Selection
Not all dental implants are placed or created equally. At Harvest Dental Care we only use reputable original manufacturer implant companies (not knock-off brands that have copied designs). When it comes to your dental health, we follow all manufacturer guidelines and use all manufacturer parts. In this word, we believe you get what you pay for.

The Process of Replacing Missing Teeth with Dental Implants
-
Consultation
Evaluating the quality and quantity of bone is fundamental to implant placement sucess. We usually take series specialized X-Rays to develop a customized treatment plan.
We offer Free Video Consultation to discuss treatment and how it can apply to your situation.
-
Tooth Removal
A tooth needs to be removed before evaluating candidacy of implant post placement. In many cases, we recommend a bone graft to help ensure sufficient bone is present for placement of the implant post.
We also provide a plan to replace missing teeth during the healing phase so you don’t have a gap.
-
Implant Post
An implant post or fixture replaces the root of a natural tooth. This post takes about 3-4 months for the bone to heal and integrate with the implant post.
While this may be perceived as an uncomforable step in treatment, most of our patients reported that it was much better than they thought.
-
Implant Crown
At this stage a crown (the part of the tooth that you see) is attached to the implant post. This will return the esthetics and function that was lost when the tooth was removed.
In most cases, we can perform this part of the procedure without numbing you.
Not All Dental Implant Systems are Equal
Dental Implant brands matter when it comes to success with treatment. Reputable implant companies have invested heavily in research and development. By choosing those implant brands, you are assured you will be receiving high quality and long-lasting components. When dental implants are first placed in the body, a biological response occurs, that leads to an exchange of information between the cells of your body and biomaterials. This interaction determines whether there is acceptance or rejection of the dental implant post (also known as the fixture). Reputable dental implant companies have focused on these mechanisms to promote better bone healing around dental implants (this is known as osseointegration).
When dental implants are manufactured by reputable implant manufacturers, they ensure that the final product meets stringent quality control. However, the biomechanical qualities of alternate name dental implants or “cloned” implant systems can be unknown, however closely they imitate a reputable implant manufacturer.
While dental tourism is a popular option for cost savings, we educate patients about reputable implant manufacturers in addition to the process of finding a clinic following the rigorous infection prevention and control standards, not only for your dental health but for your overall health.
At Harvest Dental Care, we order all implant parts directly from reputable implant manufacturers and work with trusted local dental labs, to ensure that manufacturers instructions, protocols and installation instructions are closely followed. Some common implant systems that we routinely work with:
