Dr. Osman Anwar
BSc, DDS*
General Dentist / Calgary Dentist / Cochrane Dentist

I have been a dentist since 2001, starting my career at a dental clinic in Crescent Heights, Calgary. I now focus on Family, Cosmetic, and General Dentistry, working at our two Harvest Dental Care locations in Calgary and Cochrane.

EDUCATION

I earned a B.Sc. in Cellular, Molecular, and Microbial Biology (Microbiology) from the University of Calgary. While studying, I volunteered on Friday afternoons at Foothills Hospital, talking with elderly patients, serving hot dinners, and offering ice water and arrowroot cookies (remember those?). After my B.Sc., I briefly pursued a Bachelor of Commerce, but it wasn't for me, so I didn't finish. Shortly there after, I was accepted into the Doctor of Dental Surgery program at the University of Alberta.

PAST EMPLOYMENT

I have worked in various jobs, including lawn care, grocery store clerk, car wash attendant, computer repair, web development, and selling car parts. I earned everything through hard work and know its importance. I value people's diverse backgrounds and the different challenges they face. I understand that many factors influence people's dental treatment choices and that everyone experiences different dental challenges at different times in their lives.

IN MY SPARE TIME

I love spending time with my supportive wife. I enjoy cooking, but I like eating even more! Recently, Calgary has many new eclectic restaurants, making it hard for me to lose weight! I also chair the AACA (American Academy of Clear Aligners) Calgary Study Club, where I organize monthly speakers and training for Calgary dentists on Invisalign and orthodontics.

MY FUTURE

My future aspirations include dreaming of becoming an Iron Chef, though I know it's a far-fetched goal. I also enjoy mentoring and teaching graduate and dental students.

One day, I hope to build a Mobile Dental Clinic that can serve northern Canada (where there is hugely a significant need) and third-world countries to provide charitable dental care. It's a work in progress, and I plan to pursue it when I have more time and more grey hair.

I look forward to serving you and your family at either of our locations and making a positive impact on your dental health.

Most sincerely,

  • AACA

    AACA Calgary

I enjoy running the AACA Calgary Study Club which brings community dentists interested in learning about Invisalign.

A good meeting requires my team to help create a relaxing atmosphere for dentists and cater meals for our study club members.

  • Harvest Dental Care

I enjoy working in Harvest Dental Care as a full time practitioner and enjoy working with all of my team members.

Working together with a great team allows me to focus on patient care during clinic operations.

  • Continuing Education

This is my first journey into Digital Smile Design Residency 1 continuing education in Las Vegas (November 2022).

This is not an official designation or specialty recognized by the CDSA.

  • Student for Life

This was my second journey into Digital Smile Design Residency 2 continuing education in Seville, Spain (Mar 2023). I really enjoy taking continuing education courses.

Special Interests

  • Aesthetic Smile Design

Aesthetic smile design is a comprehensive dental method aimed at improving the look of a person's smile. It considers tooth color, alignment, shape, and overall balance to create a beautiful and confident smile. This process includes a variety of cosmetic treatments personalized for you to achieve your ideal smile. I have dedicated many hours to continuing education to improve my knowledge of materials and care.

  • Invisalign® Orthodontics

Invisalign is a solution for straightening teeth using clear, removable aligners. It discreetly corrects misaligned teeth and is a more pleasing option compared to traditional braces, while effectively creating a straight smile. I've been a certified Invisalign provider since 2009, enjoying the combination of traditional orthodontics and digital technology with iTero Digital Scanners (no more messy impressions).

  • Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium posts surgically inserted into the jawbone to act as artificial tooth roots, offering a strong base for replacement teeth. They are a dependable and long-lasting option for restoring missing teeth, improving function and appearance. I completed my first training in dental implant treatment in London, Ontario (2008) and a second course with live patients in the Dominican Republic (2019). I am providing treatment as a General Dentist.
